The Frenchman scored the tying basket in regulation and the first in overtime

The San Antonio Spurs emerged triumphant against the Houston Rockets 126-122 in a dramatic fashion in overtime to earn first victory of the season on Friday night.

It was Victor Wembanyama, who made all the headlines as his phenomenal performance inspired his team to victory.

The teenager tied the game with 20 second left in regulation and was on it again in overtime to give Spurs the lead. He finished the match with 21 points and 12 rebounds.

“I really, really love winning,” Wembanyama said. “It’s what I love most in life. So, of course, it felt great. Coming back in the locker room, (coach Gregg Popovich) acknowledged that it was my first-ever NBA win. It just made me proud for a moment, proud of myself. Of course, it’s just one win and we’ve got a whole lot more to come and a whole lot more tough games to come.”

Devin Vassell was the highest scorer with 25 points, while Keldon Johnson finished with 20 of his own.

Alperen Sengun scored 25 points for the Rockets, while Fred VanVleet finished with 24 and Jalen Green added another 22. The Houston team have now dropped their first two games of the season.
