French basketball’s rising star, Victor Wembanyama, acknowledged the decision of the San Antonio Spurs coaching staff to monitor his playing minutes but expressed a desire to spend more time on the court.
The 19-year-old player suffered a leg injury a week before the start of the 2024 season, and the injury has not fully subsided, leading to some internal challenges for the Frenchman.
“At the moment, of course, I want to play. It frustrates me. The smarter move is to listen to the coaching staff, even though it’s difficult and annoying. I understand their perspective, but it’s tough,” explained Wembanyama after San Antonio’s 98-106 loss to Memphis as the visiting team. He scored 20 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in 26 minutes of play. Victor Wembanyama also commented on his colleague Ja Morant from the Grizzlies. “He’s a good player. It’s tough to guard him. He’s very fast. Every night, I see another great player. In the NBA, every team has a competitor who creates problems,” said the teenager.
