Scott Arniel came to the Jets in 2022 to be part of the staff of new manager Rick Bowness.
Two seasons later, Scott is replacing his ex-boss as Winnipeg’s next head coach.
The NHL franchise revealed that Arniel is being promoted from associate to head coach. The move comes almost 21 days after Bowness shared that he is retiring. Winnipeg announced that the new boss and the GM Kevin Cheveldayoff will meet with reports at the beginning of the week.
Scott helped Bowness lead the organization to a 98-57-9 record and 2 postseason appearances over 2 campaigns.
The Jets had a phenomenal regular campaign in 2023-24. Bowness was among the finalists for the NHL’s Coach of the Year trophy after Winnipeg had a 52-24-6 record that led them to 2nd place in the Central Division and the West Conference.
But the team failed in the playoffs as for a 2nd straight year the Jets were eliminated in 5 matches in the 1st round.
“I’m very, very happy for Scott. He has been a huge help for me over the last couple of years and he is more than prepared for this job. He is the perfect guy to take over”
