Seven-time Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton finished second season in a row without winning a race and Mercedes team also failed to win a single race this campaign.
Team boss Toto Wolff is confident Lewis will “come back to life” and win his eighth world title as long as the team provides him with a car to challenge for the title.
Lewis’ last victory was in Saudi Arabia in 2021, and since then Max Verstappen has won 35 races and a total of three world titles. Hamilton has already stated several times that he will not retire from the sport until he overtakes Michael Schumacher in terms of titles and Wolff is confident that this can happen.
“Lewis is the best driver in the world who had another difficult weekend this season,” Wolff said after the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. “If we can get him a car to fight for the title, he will win it.”
“If you look at the rankings of Mercedes in recent years, you will see that since 2013 we have had a series of titles, and in the last two years we have been third and second among constructors. At first glance, it’s not bad, but this year Max won 19 races, so we were far from our good performance.”
