In overtime, Connor McDavid notched the game-winning goal just 4 minutes and 34 seconds in, while also contributing two assists to lead the Edmonton Oilers’ comeback, securing a 3-2 victory over the St. Louis Blues on Wednesday night.
Zach Hyman was a key contributor, scoring twice and reaching a season total of 40 goals as Edmonton clinched its second consecutive win. Goaltender Stuart Skinner played a crucial role, making 30 saves.
The St. Louis Blues, on the other hand, faced their third consecutive loss and have now dropped five of their last six games. Robert Thomas and Pavel Buchnevich managed to find the net for the Blues, with Jordan Binnington recording 31 saves.
In the late stages of overtime, McDavid showcased his skill by maneuvering past defenders and executing a skillful shot that sailed past Binnington. This marked McDavid’s 22nd goal of the season, breaking a 10-game goal-scoring drought, with 25 games elapsing between his goals.
At the same time Artemi Panarin scored two goals and added an assist, while goaltender Igor Shesterkin made 30 crucial saves, leading the New York Rangers to their 11th win in 12 games, beating Blue Jackets 4-1.
It was Rangers’ sixth consecutive home win. As the leaders in the Eastern Conference extended their impressive run to 12-2-1 in the last 15 games, bouncing back from the end of their 10-game winning streak in a game against Columbus on Sunday.
In the final minute, Kreider and Panarin sealed the victory with empty-net goals, just 41 seconds apart. Kreider reached his 30th goal of the season, marking the third consecutive season he has achieved this milestone, while Panarin set a career-best total of 35 goals.
With 83 points, the Rangers are now tied with Vancouver at the top of the NHL standings, although the Canucks have played one more game.
