Alexander Zverev has moved on to the round of 16 at the Paris Olympic Games after a convincing straight-sets win over Tomáš Macháč from the Czech Republic, finishing the match 6-3, 7-5.
The reigning Olympic champion will next face Alexei Popyrin, who earned his spot by defeating Stan Wawrinka.

In the first set, Macháč broke Zverev’s serve early, but Zverev quickly regained his footing, breaking back and taking Macháč’s serve again in the 6th game to secure the set comfortably.
The second set proved more challenging for Zverev, as both players struggled with the hot Parisian weather. They traded early breaks and held their serves consistently afterward. Just when it seemed the set would head to a tiebreak, Zverev managed to break Macháč’s serve in the final game and then confidently served out the match.
Zverev is joined in the round of 16 by Taylor Fritz, Lorenzo Musetti, Félix Auger-Aliassime, and Corentin Moutet, all of whom have advanced in the tournament.
