The deal was worth $1 million, according to media reports.
Drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 2015 MLB June Amateur Draft, Rios made his big-league debut in 2019.
Bouncing around from the major league and minor league clubs, the Puerto Rico native has yet to play 162 games in his four-year career so far, but a lot of that is thanks to the Dodgers’ stacked roster year after year.
For his career so far, Rios has posted a .219/.299/.500 slash line with 20 home runs, 9 doubles, 43 RBI, and 25 walks in 112 games.
His best season came in 2020. In 32 games the lefty-bat hit 8 home runs with 17 RBI, 6 doubles, and posted a .946 OPS. He also finished the year helping the Dodgers win the 2020 World Series.
Signing a major league contract with the Cubs, Rios throws himself into the mix of potential first and third-base options for the major league club in 2023.
With his power threat potential from the left side of the plate, the former 2020 World Series champion could be a nice power bat for the Cubs in the middle/back of the lineup.
