While a few Kansas City players and managers shared they had a prepared strategy in the event that the Super Bowl went to OT, several San Francisco players shared they were not even aware of the rules.
“I didn’t even know about the new postseason OT rule, so it was new to me,” 49ers DL Arik Armstead admitted. “I didn’t even really know what was going on when it came to the new rules in the playoffs.”

Yesterday was the 2nd of 58 Super Bowls to be even after the regular time. It was 1st played under new OT rules that ensure both organizations get the opportunity to possess the ball before the match finishes – unless the 1st drive in the overtime ends with a safety. That is different from the OT rules in the regular campaign, where the match ends if the 1st franchise to have the ball scores a TD.
