The problem occurred with 4 minutes left in the match as Joel was double-teamed by the Golden State’s Jonathan Kuminga and Draymond Green. After Jonathan poked the ball away from Embiid, the reigning MVP fell to the ground to retrieve it, and Kuminga fell on top of his knee.
Joel grabbed the knee and was in visible pain. Embiid left the court and didn’t play anymore.
Joel had been sidelined for Philadelphia’s previous 2 matches because of a knee problem in the same knee. Embiid was listed as questionable before the match vs. the Golden State, with the team making him available after the end of the warm-up.
Philly’s manager, Nick Nurse, shared with the media that Embiid shared that he is feeling alright ahead of the clash.
