Morocco was shockingly given the Africa Cup of Nations title today by appeals judges who overturned Senegal’s win in a chaotic final at the beginning of the year.
The Confederation of African Football shared that Senegal was “declared to have forfeited the Final,” and its 1-0 victory in extra time becomes a 3-0 default triumph for the host nation.

In the January 18th final in Rabat, Senegal footballers left the pitch in protest during stoppage time for 15 minutes, and the supporters tried to storm the field when the host nation received a penalty.
When the match resumed, Morocco striker Brahim Díaz missed the penalty, and Senegal scored the only goal in the extra time.
At the 1st disciplinary hearing, CAF imposed fines of over a million dollars and suspensions for Senegal and Morocco footballers and officials, but didn’t change the final result.
However, that’s not the end of the saga as the case could go to a further appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sport based in Lausanne, Switzerland.
