Chelsea’s struggles continue, with performances on the pitch failing to improve and the search for a new permanent manager proving difficult. Adding to the concern is a new report from The Athletic which claims that several of the squad’s players want to leave the club and not all of those wanting to leave fall into the “12 months remaining on their contract” group.
According to The Athletic, some players at Chelsea are beginning to regret signing such long-term contracts, with some new signings disillusioned with life at the club so far. While this is somewhat natural and there is still plenty of time for this to change, players who have signed contracts with the new owners face a 30% pay cut for not finishing in the Champions League this season.
Players like Kalidou Koulibaly and Raheem Sterling will keep their wages. The influx of new players in the last two transfer windows has not brought the success many predicted for the Blues. Graham Potter lost his job as manager earlier in April as he struggled to cope with such a bloated and expensively assembled squad, while Frank Lampard is yet to win a game after by returning to the club as a temporary coach.
