Carlos Alcaraz faced an unexpected challenge from Australian qualifier Li Tu in the U.S. Open first round before clinching a 6-2, 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 victory.
Alcaraz, a four-time Grand Slam champion who recently lost to Novak Djokovic in the Paris Olympics final, started the match confidently but faltered in the second set as errors crept into his game.

After dropping the second set, Alcaraz restored control by breaking Tu’s serve in the third set for a 4-3 lead, eventually closing out the match with his eighth ace. He will now face Dutch player Botic van de Zandschulp in the second round.
Tu, who returned to tennis after a six-year break during which he earned a degree and started a tennis academy, impressed with his resilience and strong play after initially showing nerves. Alcaraz acknowledged his opponent’s impressive performance, saying, “Obviously, he surprised me a little bit. He started the match a little nervous, but after the first set, he grew up, and he started to play great tennis.”
