Fernando Alonso expressed his delight in working with his new teammate Lance Stroll, who in the Spaniard’s eyes is at times ‘outstanding’.
The 41-year-old also revealed what he thinks his younger colleague should do in order to join him in the fight for the podium places.
Stroll is enduring an up and down season, fracturing his arm at the Bahrain Grand Prix, but recovering brilliantly. Since then he hasn’t been able to match his much more elusive teammate’s pace and is trailing massively in the Drivers’ Standings. The Spaniard currently sits third with 117 points, while Stroll has only 37.
“I think Lance is showing the speed in the car, the commitment. We saw at the beginning of the year as well, racing with a broken hand and things like that; you only see this when you really have passion for something that you’re doing.” said Alonso.
“I think, for him, the most important thing now is to get the consistency, weekend after weekend… That consistency is going to be the next step in his career, to be constantly fighting for the top five and then at the end of the year, you see the amount of points that you gain when you get all the weekends right.”
