For the first time since the start of the 2023 season, Fernando Alonso has finished two races in a row in which he failed to get on the podium.
Despite this slight setback from Aston Martin’s side, Alonso still finds reasons to be happy.
“I am not worried about our development. Our car is better than expected this year. We are fighting for things we didn’t even dream of at the beginning of the year. If we can continue to score points and fight the guys at the front it will be good. But we must also look at the long-term picture. We shouldn’t stress ourselves if we finish off the podium. We need to be pragmatic and relaxed about our performance.
“We weren’t fast enough in any session this weekend. At the start of the race we tried to extend the run with the medium hard tires, then came the safety car. We chose to switch to the soft tires because there wasn’t much left until the finish.
“It was a good strategy and thanks to all these decisions we got to seventh place, a bit ahead of what we deserved in terms of pace. I’d say we salvaged a very difficult weekend.
