After one of the most remarkable qualifying sessions, which saw the leadership change on couple of occasions in the dying seconds, Max Verstappen and Fernando Alonso will line up together at the front row for the Monaco Grand Prix.
The duo was separated by less than a tenth as the World Champion just pipped the veteran Spaniard at the end to clinch an all-important pole on a circuit, which is notoriously difficult to pass at.
Therefore, Alonso’s best chance of an overtake is the start and he expressed his full enthusiasm about the prospect, stating that Verstappen’s start have been rather sloppy.
“I mean, it’s very short to Turn 1, but we have normally a good start this year,” he commented. “Max is a little bit inconsistent, so maybe it’s one of those bad ones tomorrow…”
Track position is vital in Monaco; usually the one who gets in front stays in front to the chequered flag barring any technical issues or unforced errors.
