Carlo Ancelotti shared he doesn’t “owe” anyone a place in Selecao 2026 World Cup squad after being asked if he will feature Neymar at the upcoming tournament in North America. Neymar was left out of the Brazil squad for the last matches because of problems with injury, but after netting a hat-trick for his team last time out, rumors over his place in the squad for the World Cup next summer began again.
However, Ancelotti said that he will pick his players and nobody can influence his decision on who will be part of his squad for the World Cup.
“In the past 15 years, Neymar was the biggest star in the Brazilian national team, but you can’t triumph at the World Cup alone. Putting all our expectations on him right now is difficult because he can’t play 3 straight matches,” Ancelotti shared.
A few days ago, the legendary Italian head coach warned both Neymar and his former star in Real Madrid, Vini Junior, that they must be at their highest level to be featured in Brazil’s squad for the World Cup.
🚨🗣️ Carlo Ancelotti on Neymar's return to the national team:
"I understand you guys are very interested in Neymar. I want to clarify…"
"We are in December, World Cup is in June. When I announce the squad in May, if Neymar deserves to go, if he’s well, if he’s better or same… pic.twitter.com/xZj7YAssEb
