Real Madrid’s head coach, Carlo Ancelotti, addressed the media at Wembley ahead of the Champions League final against Borussia Dortmund, emphasizing that the match will be a challenging test for his team.
“The Champions League is not an obsession; the obsession is to compete and give our best, as we have done throughout these seasons. Winning the Champions League is very important. I think we can already say that this team’s season has been very successful,” Ancelotti began.
Ancelotti highlighted the unique pressures and significance of the Champions League final. “In football, the Champions League final is the most important and most dangerous match. You need to enjoy it to the fullest, but then you start worrying that something might go wrong. We are very close to the most important thing, which is winning the Champions League. I need to instill in the players what needs to be done on the pitch. Fear is an important part of performing well, and fear and anxiety will start tonight, tomorrow morning,” explained the Italian, who will be experiencing his third final as the coach of “Los Blancos.”
He expressed his contentment and readiness for the match, saying, “I am very happy to be here; it’s not my first time, and I hope it won’t be my last. I know my players will give everything.”
Ancelotti concluded by acknowledging the special nature of Real Madrid’s relationship with the Champions League. “It’s not a coincidence. It’s something special; it could be the history, the tradition, the quality of the players… It has happened so many times that it’s not a coincidence.”
