Dallas Mavericks center Anthony Davis is expected to undergo a procedure to repair ligament damage in his left hand and be out for several months.
Anthony’s campaign is over in Mavs, given the recovery time and Dallas’ direction at 15-25 and 12th in the West Conference.
Ever since it became clear on Friday how serious Anthony’s hand problem is, Dallas has begun trade talks with multiple franchises. If Davis joins a postseason contender – such as the Raptors or the Hawks – Anthony could play again during the playoffs.
The Mavs star sustained his injury while defending Jazz’s Lauri Markkanen on a drive late in his team’s road defeat against Utah, a match in which the center finished with 21 points, 11 boards, 4 assists, and 1 block in 35 minutes on the court.
Several problems limited Anthony to only 29 regular-campaign matches as Dallas player since he landed on the team from the Lakers in a blockbuster deal that featured Luka Doncic.
Mavs record with Davis is 10-10, while without him, they are 5-15, but the organization is looking to rebuild around Cooper Flagg for the future.
