Manchester United’s forward, Anthony Martial, is set to miss action until April as he undergoes recovery from groin surgery, the club announced on Wednesday. The 28-year-old has been limited to just 19 appearances this season across all competitions due to an undisclosed illness, with his last appearance as a substitute in United’s 3-0 Premier League loss to Bournemouth in December.
In a statement, United reported, “Anthony Martial has successfully undergone surgery to address a groin complaint and is expected to be sidelined for approximately 10 weeks during his rehabilitation.”
While injuries have plagued United this season, there is positive news elsewhere in the squad. Midfielder Casemiro, along with defenders Lisandro Martinez and Luke Shaw, have returned to training after recovering from their respective injuries, as confirmed by manager Erik ten Hag on January 12.
Currently occupying the seventh spot in the league standings, United is 16 points behind leaders Liverpool. They are set to face Newport County in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Sunday.
