The Canadian Grand Prix was the first race since the start of the 2023 Formula One season in which the Red Bull team won by less than 10 seconds
All of Red Bull’s wins since the start of the year have been by a lead of at least 20 seconds over their nearest pursuers. One of the reasons for the small gap between Verstappen and Fernando Alonso at Gilles Villeneuve was the characteristics of the Canadian circuit, as well as Aston Martin’s introduction of improvements to the AMR23 for the weekend in Canada.
The Silverstone team boss’s hopes are that these improvements will allow Alonso and Lance Stroll to be closer to the front in the next two races in Austria and Great Britain, which will be held on tracks with many more fast corners. It was at the last such track in Spain that Aston Martin’s weakest race since the start of the season came, in which Stroll and Alonso finished only sixth and seventh.
“I’m not worried (about the next two tracks) because we’ve seen the improvements work and now there are tracks with fast corners to come. I think we’ve improved our car with these corners, even though there aren’t many in Montreal,” explained Krack. “Actually, we’re looking forward to these tracks because I think we’ll see Red Bull’s true potential on them, which will give us tell us exactly how far behind them we are,” he said.
