The Colorado Avalanche have signed second-line center Ryan Johansen from the Nashville Predators, the team announced on Saturday.
“Ryan is a talented, veteran center who helps our top six (forward group),” Avalanche general manager Chris MacFarland said. “He gives us size in the middle of the ice and brings leadership and experience to our roster. We look forward to adding him to our team.”
Johansen will fill in the void, left by Nazem Kadri, who headed last year to Calgary in a $49 million-deal.
The 31-year-old had 28 points in 55 games last season and still has plenty to offer.
The two teams have decided to split Johansen $8 million salary cap, which is more than a welcomed sight at Colorado. It is new head-coach Barry Trotz’s first big summer spending after taking charge of the club.
