The Bundesliga holders Bayern Munich have managed to overcome a feisty Stuttgart side 2-1 away from home to go top of the league.
Matthijs de Ligt opened the scoring in the 39th minute. Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting doubled the lead in the 62th minute and pretty much insured an easy ride for the defending champions en route to victory.
There were some cause for concern, however, as Stuttgart struck late with Colombian forward Juan Jose Perea to narrow Bayern’s lead. That made for a tense closing stages, but eventually the stronger side prevailed.
The win proved crucial for the visiting side as they were aiming to regain the lead in the Bundesliga table after Borussia Dortmund managed to beat Leipzig on Friday night.
Before they return to home duty, Bayern host a pivotal 2nd leg last 16 match against French giants PSG on Wednesday night, where they will be looking to hold on to the vital 1-0 win, they secured in Paris two weeks ago.
