The Chicago Bears dismissed Matt Eberflus today, 24 hours after a 23-20 defeat against the Detroit Lions, which ended with Chicago falling victim to clock mismanagement.
The head coach held a news conference via Zoom in the morning and revealed he was “confident” he would be coaching the team vs. the 49ers next weekend, but later today, Eberflus was dismissed and interim offensive coordinator Thomas Brown would replace him.
Matt’s tenure finished amid a 6-match losing streak that featured an array of last-second defeats.

The defeats coincided with dramatic improvement by Williams, who has thrown 232 passes without a pick, the longest streak for a rookie in league history. The rookie has thrown 5 TDs without an interception over the last 2 weeks, and the next manager’s top priority will be to develop the 1st pick of the draft in 2024.
The Bears were defeated in 6 one-score matches this year, which brings Eberflus’ career record in one-score to 5-19. That is the worst record by any manager with at least 20 matches in the National Football League history.
