Inter Miami co-owner David Beckham shared the story of bringing Lionel Messi to his team and confessed that he felt a little worried the Argentine could return to Barcelona.
“We always knew there would be competition. The moment I got a bit worried was when Barcelona showed interest in Messi. Barca obviously wanted him back, and as we know, Leo never got to say goodbye the way he deserved there. That’s why this was the only time I started to worry that he might end up somewhere other than Inter Miami. But Jorge, Jose and I did everything we could to get his call to confirm he was coming to the club,” Beckham shared to The Times.
Likewise, the former England captain recalled that since the day he became part owner of Inter Miami, bringing Lionel Messi to the club and helping to develop soccer in the United States has been one of his goals.
“I’m sure all the owners say this, but from day one he (Messi) was the dream player I wanted to bring to Miami. I see him in our team, I see him training and playing and he still can’t believe that we have him in the team,” Beckham also said about his dream of bringing Messi to the team.
“I can see that Leo will be involved in the league much longer than he will play. We are very interested in keeping him to help attract players and be involved in the football development of the club and football in the United States. I think it’s going to be as much fun for him as it has been for me all this time,” added Beckham.
