The head coach and the player are arrested in a gambling case.

Portland Trail Blazers manager Chauncey Billups and Miami Heat player Terry Rozier were arrested today because of an investigation into illegal gambling.

The Heat guard was arrested in the morning at a hotel in Florida. Miami lost its campaign opener against Orlando yesterday, when Terry was not on the court because of the coach’s decision.

Billups’ arrest in Oregon was also part of an illegal poker operation tied to the Mafia. The Blazers’ head coach is expected to face the court later today.

Also, ex-Cavs basketballer and assistant coach Damon Jones was arrested today on charges that he provided inside information about NBA matches to co-defendants who used it for betting. Damon played for 10 organizations in the league for 11 years from 1998 to 2009 and was a Cleveland assistant from 2016 to 2018.

Betting sites in more than one state flagged suspicious betting interest on Terry’s stats ahead of a Charlotte Hornets-New Orleans Pelicans match on March 23rd, 2023. Rozier appeared for only 10 minutes in this match and left as he revealed that he sustained a foot problem, as the wagers on under his statistics were successful.
