Boston Celtics executive Brad Stevens claimed that the 3-team trade that landed Kristaps Porzingis in Celtics, but Marcus Smart headed out to the Memphis Grizzlies was to balance the franchise.
“I said this at the beginning of the offseason: I’m sure that we need to balance our roster and make sure that we will do everything possible to accomplish that,” Brad shared with the reporters the next day after the 2023 NBA Draft. “And to do that, we had to sacrifice one of our best players on the roster.”
Celtics’ president of basketball operations also added that Porzingis would be crucial for the franchise in the offense and near the rim, as he also thinks that Kristaps has played his best basketball lately since he joined the NBA.
