Sam, who has been placed on gardening leave, was a crucial figure in the Seagulls’ transfers of Alexis Mac Allister, Moisés Caicedo, and Julio Enciso.
Manchester United wanted to appoint Jewell as part of the reshaping of the team under the new ownership. Yesterday, the Red Devils formally approached the Magpies’ sporting director, Dan Ashworth – Sam’s ex-boss at the Seagulls.
Sam, the son of ex-Wigan and Bradford head coach Paul Jewell was appointed by Dan at the South Coast club in 2016, beginning to work as the team’s head of under-21 recruitment.
Brighton announced that Jewell was hired by Chelsea and thanked him for what he did for their side during his period with the club. The Seagulls added that Mike Cave would take on his responsibilities.
