The 31-year-old is set to become Washington’s 13th quarterback since 2018 and that will most likely change next year, when the new regime kicks in.
Howell will be given a break as he was pulled from both of Commanders’ last two games.
“I think this is probably a good opportunity for Sam to take a break,” coach Don Rivera said on Wednesday. “This is about Sam’s continued development, and things hadn’t gone as well as we would have liked for him the last few weeks, so we just think this is a good opportunity for him to watch.”
The Commanders have struggled lately with 6 defeats in a row and an unimpressive 4-11 record. They will be doing everything possible for a comeback.
