Bruins defeat Stars 4-3 in shootout to end 4-match skid

Brad Marchand and Charlie McAvoy notched in the penalties, and the Boston Bruins snapped a 4-match losing series with a 4-3 victory against the Dallas Stars at TD Garden in Boston, MA.

Marchand kept the Bruins’ bid alive in the shootout after the Stars took a 1-0 lead. McAvoy put the visiting team in a position where they needed to notch, but Jeremy Swayman stopped 8 of 9 shots in the penalties and ended the match with 43 saves.

Boston forward David Pastrnak tied the match on a 6-on-5 advantage with fewer than 2 minutes in regulation. Pastrnak wired in a 1-timer from the left circle for his 35th goal of the campaign after McAvoy got the Stars defense to commit to the Boston defenseman.

Stars defenseman Esa Lindell snapped a 2-2 tie with less than 10 minutes in the 3^rd period after keeping the puck on a 2-on-1 break for his 5^th campaign goal. Wyatt Johnston and Ryan Suter also notched in regulation for the Stars, while goalie Oettinger stopped 26 shots.

Bruins’ Justin Brazeau notched his 1^st league goal in his 1^st National Hockey League match, while Jesper Boqvist also notched. The fourth line provided the Bruins’ 1st 2 goals.

Before the clash, the Bruins recognized Marchand for recently playing his 1,000^th match in the league.

Dallas will play against the Rangers in the Big Apple on Tuesday, while Boston will play against the Oilers in Canada on Wednesday for the 1^st match of a 4-match road trip.
