The Canadian Senior Men’s National Team secured a 93-83 victory over Australia on Tuesday, marking a 2-0 start in the Group Phase at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. This victory also extends Canada’s perfect record against Australia to 4-0 in Olympic history.

RJ Barrett led the Canadian team with an impressive performance, scoring 24 points on 8-for-14 shooting, while also contributing seven rebounds, five assists, and two steals. Barrett’s 24 points are the highest by a Canadian in the Olympic men’s basketball tournament since Steve Nash scored 26 points in 2000.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, despite early foul trouble, added 16 points on 8-for-10 shooting, along with four rebounds, three assists, three steals, and two blocked shots in 26 minutes. Dillon Brooks also contributed 16 points, and Lu Dort added 11 points while playing stellar defense in the second half to help Canada pull away from Australia.
For Australia, Josh Giddey led with 19 points, and Jock Landale recorded a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds.
Canada’s next challenge will be against the No. 2 ranked Spain on Friday, Aug. 2, at 11:15 a.m. ET / 8:15 a.m. PT.
