Canada beat Honduras 4-1 in a convincing fashion to secure a place in the semi-finals of the Concacaf Nations League, held in June, as Group C winners on Tuesday night.
Cyle Larin opened the scoring as early as the 8th minute after a brilliant, quick-feet combination with Jonathan Osorio. Larin was at it again just three minutes later picking up a loose ball from a corner kick and slotting it home for 2-0.
The striker had a golden opportunity to complete his hat-trick before half-time as he stepped up to take a 42nd minute penalty, but unfortunately for him his shot went wide.
Jonathan David sealed the deal for Les Rouges in the opening stages of the second half as he tucked home a loose ball that came to him after a serious of fortunate rebounds.
Honduras pulled one back in the 73rd minute through Jorge Benguche, but it was all too little too late as the Canadians soon restored their three lead cushion in the 86th minute through Jonathan Osorio’s fine finish to seal the end result 4-1.
It was Canada first home outing since their memorable 2022 World Cup and they firmly confirmed that they are team to be reckoned with as they look to lift first trophy since clinching the Gold Cup way back in 2000.
