Jake Allen made 45 saves, including 21 in the third period, as the Montreal Canadiens beat Calgary Flames 2-1 on Thursday in a game, which marked Sean Monahan’s first appearance against his former team.

Cole Caufield broke a third-period tie and rookie Juraj Slafkovsky, with his fourth goal of the season, also scored for Montreal (12-10-1), who have won seven of its last 11 games.
Elias Lindholm had the only goal for the Flames (10-10-3). Calgary are 1-3-1 in their last five.

Monahan, who was recognized with a video tribute during a first-period TV timeout and waved to the crowd as he was given a standing ovation, had a pair of assists.
He played 656 games over nine seasons with the Flames. Coming off his second hip surgery, he joined the Canadiens in the off-season.
