Chelsea and Liverpool concluded their encounter at Stamford Bridge with a goalless 0-0 draw on Tuesday night.
It was the first game in charge of new Chelsea interim manager Bruno Saltor after the unexpected sacking of Graham Potter and the Spaniard’s reign began just like his predecessor’s Potter ended – with no goals.
On the other side, Liverpool’s manager Jurgen Klopp made six changes after the disappointing 4-1 thrashing against Manchester City on Saturday. But neither of the changes seemed to help as the Reds barely troubled Chelsea’s goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga.
The London team seemed the more persistent side early on as Ibrahima Konate had to clear Mateo Kovacic’s shot off the line. Kai Havertz saw his goal ruled out by VAR after a an earlier handball, while Reece James successful strike was overruled due to offside.
The draw serves no benefit to either Chelsea nor Liverpool, as the Blues remain glued to the 11th spot in the Premier League, while Liverpool suffer another setback in their aim for a top 4 spot.
With a Champions League quarter-final against Real Madrid looming large for Chelsea and a vital game against League leaders Arsenal for Liverpool at Anfield, things are not looking very bright for the Blues and the Merseyside team.
