The Blues performed at their finest to overturn a first leg 1-0 deficit to Borussia Dortmund

Chelsea staged a spectaculiar comeback against Borussia Dortmund to reach Champions league quarter finals. Chelsea were beaten by 1-0 in the first leg at the Borussia Dortmund home ground. However, the London team managed to turn things around and won 2-0 with one of their best displays of the season.

The Blues started the match strong, as they created plenty of good opportunities in front of Borussia goal. Kai Havertz goal was overruled for an offside call, before Raheem Sterling deservedly found the back of the net in the 43th minute.

The second half started out strong for Chelsea as they were awarded an early penalty kick for Marius Wolff handball after a VAR review. Havertz stepped up and unfortunately for him and the Chelsea squad hit the inside of the post.

However, there was a twist as VAR review showed players from both side being inside the box before the penalty kick had been taken. So the penalty had to be retaken. Up stepped Havertz again and this time there were no blunders as he gave Chelsea a 2-0 lead much to the delight of manager Graham Potter.

The remainder of the game was pretty much steady with neither side creating serious chances in front of goal ,barring one missed shot by Borussia star Jude Bellingham.

The result is a huge lift-off for Chelsea and especially for under-fire boss Potter, who is enduring a torrid time with the club.

“The players were tremendous and the supporters were tremendous.” he said after the game “We had to be against a team that were doing so well. Over the two games I felt that we deserved to go through. It was a special night.”

The next challenge for Chelsea is against Leicester on Saturday, while Borussia Dortmund visit Schalke 04 in a bid to steal the title away from Bayern Munich.
