The Chicago Bears are finalizing a contract to appoint Detroit Lions OC Ben Johnson as their next boss.
Ben, who has been Detroit’s offensive coordinator in the last 3 years, will replace Matt Eberflus, who was dismissed during the campaign.
The former OC of the Lions was available to be appointed after Detroit was the NFC’s No. 1 seed in the postseason and was eliminated during the past weekend by the Washington Commanders.

Ben has rebuffed interest from the franchise in the past few campaigns but will now take over at the Bears to coach QB Caleb Williams, who shared earlier in January that he was intrigued by Ben’s offense with Detroit.
Ahead of Chicago’s 34-17 defeat against the Lions in the past month, Johnson shared similar praise over what he’d seen from the Bears quarterback. In 2 matches vs. Detroit, the 1st overall selection in the past year’s draft threw for 681 yards and 5 TDs without a pick.
Chicago finished 5-12 this campaign, last in the NFC North rankings.
