Khamzat Chimaev finally made it, and he became the champion for the 1st time in his career in the UFC, as he did it in the USA, and that happened 5 years after his debut in the fighting organization.
Khamzat (15-0) captured the middleweight championship at UFC 319 in Chicago as he was the better fighter from the beginning until the end of his bout against Dricus Du Plessis (23-3). The South African fighter denied a finish to Chimaev, but that’s all that he achieved during the whole bout.

All 3 referees gave the fight in favor of Chimaev 50-44, who set the organization’s record for most total strikes landed in a fight with 529 compared with just 45 for Dricus.
“I’m always happy,” shared Khamzat moments after becoming the champ. “I never have a plan for the fights, I just do my best at the gym. Du Plessis is strong. I couldn’t end him. I respect him for that. Dricus is the only champ that would say my name. He has a big heart,” added Chimaev after his dominant victory.
The belt belongs to Borz 🐺
