The Washington Commanders have inked veteran Preston Smith in a move to replace one of their starters.
The franchise from the USA capital shared today that CB Jonathan Jones was placed on injured reserve to secure a spot in the team for the new addition, who returns to the Commanders after playing in his 1st 4 years in the NFL with the organization.
Preston must fill the void left by the injury of DE Deatrich Wise Jr., who was placed on IR a few days ago after sustaining a campaign-ending torn left quadriceps in their defeat against the Packers.

Commanders have inked the defensive end Deatrich a few months ago with the idea to strengthen their run defense with a great edge setter. However, he suffered a season-ending injury after only 2 matches with the franchise.
Preston returns to the team that picked him in the 2nd-round of the draft 10 years ago. Smith had almost 25 sacks with the Commanders before signing with Green Bay as a free agent in 2019. The pass rusher was part of the Packers until they traded him to Pittsburgh for a 7th-round selection midway through the past campaign.
