Khelif’s lawyer, Nabil Boudi, announced that the complaint, filed with Paris prosecutors, concerns “aggravated online harassment” and aims to hold accountable those responsible for the “misogynist, racist, and sexist” attacks against her. Boudi emphasized that the investigation should not only focus on the direct perpetrators but also on those who contributed to the spread of the online harassment.
Despite the controversy and the harassment, Khelif triumphed in her Olympic final, winning against China’s Yang Liu by unanimous decision. The harassment that Khelif faced has been described by her lawyer as a significant stain on the Paris Olympics, overshadowing her athletic achievements. Khelif, along with Taiwan’s Lin Yu-ting, had previously been disqualified from last year’s world championships after failing gender eligibility tests.
