The wide receiver wrote a statement on Instagram, which said:
“I’ve been searching my heart for what to do. And I feel that stepping away from the game is the best path for me at this time.”
It is unknown whether Davis quits football forever or just takes a break.
Head-coach Robert Saleh shared that the 28-year-old had missed last week of training camp due to “dealing with personal matter”. Saleh added that he hopes Davis comes back.
Davis was entering his third season with the Jets after a 4-year stint with the Tennessee Titans, where he was selected as the No. 5 overall pick in the 2017 draft.
