Dallas goalkeeper Martin Paes the hero after saving a penalty twice in a row

FC Dallas were victorious 2-1 against Sporting Kansas City, having trailed 1-0 at half-time on Saturday night.

Daniel Salloi put the visiting team in front in the 11th minute with a superb strike outside the box.

Throughout the remainder of the first half neither team made serious impression in front of goal.

The home crowd soon erupted into joy when Alex Velasco drew the score level in the 55th minute with a goal which resembled Salloi’s earlier strike.

But the home supporters’ joy turned into jubilation just ten minutes later, when goalkeeper Martin Paes stopped a penalty kick from Erik Tommy twice in a row, having committed the faul himself inside the box. The penalty had to be retaken due to encroachment from the goalkeeper. Paes certainly made up for his unnecassery actions with a brilliant double save, which kept the Dallas team level.

Jesus Ferreira finished off Dallas comeback in the 84th minute when he picked up the cleared ball from his initial shot.

“The penalty kick save was massive for us. The message Maarten sent to his teammates was, ‘Hey I am here; do your job and I will do mine. Let’s go.’” the relieved manager Nico Estevez commented after the game.

“We know how competitive he is and how good of a goalkeeper he is. We are grateful to have him here.”
