British boxer Daniel Dubois (19-1) is sure that he will be victorious in the biggest challenge of his career so far. This Saturday the 25-year-old talent faces the holder of titles in three different federations in the heavyweight division (WBA, IBF, WBO) Oleksandr Usyk in Wroclaw, Poland.
The reason for the fight to take place on Polish soil is the large number of Ukrainians who settled in the Baltic country to escape the war in their homeland. Usyk’s manager, Aleksandar Krasiuk, said at a press conference that Usyk was thanking the Polish people for being so kind to his compatriots.
The great support for Usyk in Wroclaw and his better record do not bother Dubois. He realizes that he is not the favorite, but he is still ready to deliver the surprise of the year.
“I’m going to shock the world and show people how good Daniel Dubois is,” the WBA title challenger told ESPN.
The Greenwich-born boxer is on a four-fight winning streak, with all four of his last fights ending before the fifth round. 18 of his 19 wins have come by KO/TKO. Dubois’ only loss came to Joe Joyce by a tenth-round knockout in November 2020.
“I’m 100% ready. I will bring these titles back home. Usyk is a great champion, and I have to give my all against him”
If Dubois beats Usyk, he will become the first Briton to beat the London 2012 Olympic champion. Usyk currently has two wins over Anthony Joshua and one each over Derek Chisora and Tony Bellew.
