Coach Brian Daboll revealed that Jones underwent MRI on Monday, which showed the seriousness of the injury and its recovery timetable.
It is still unknown when will the surgery take place or what part of the knee is damaged.
The quarterback, who returned to the first squad after missing three games with a neck injury, was hurt on the final play of the first quarter on a non-contact injury while looking for a receiver downfield. And his right knee was severely twisted.
Tommy DeVito is expected to step in Jones’ place as quarterback as Daboll will consult himself with general manager Joe Schoen.
