Tottenham Hotspur have made significant steps in making Xabi Alonso their next permanent manager, reports say.
The London team’s chief is reported to be in full readiness to pay the Spaniard release clause at his current club Bayer Leverkusen.
The ex-Liverpool and Real Madrid player has remained silent about his movements towards the Premier League and stated last week that he is focused with his current job at the Bundesliga team.
Alonso has impressed with Bayer, having taking over the club in October, turning their fortunes upside down. Leverkusen had registered only 1 win in 8 games then and were sitting in the relegation zone. Now they are 6th in contention for the European slots and on top of that are in the 1/2 finals of the Europa League.
All that bodes well for his image and therefore it is no surprise Spurs are trying to lure him and solve their current manager crisis, having fired Antontio Conte and Christian Stellini in a space of a month.
