The Dutch defender has a partial knee ligament tare

Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt will be sidelined indefinitely after injuring knee ligaments in the 2-1 German Cup loss at third division side Saarbruecken, the club said.

“Matthijs de Ligt suffered a partial tear in his right knee joint. This is the result of an ultrasound performed by the club’s medical department. Central defender De Ligt will miss FC Bayern’s upcoming matches,” the German champions said in a statement.

The Bavarians play title rivals Borussia Dortmund on Saturday and then host Turkish side Galatasaray in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Bayern, already without injured centre-back Dayot Upamecano, will also be without defensive midfielder Joshua Kimmich against Dortmund, who is suspended.
