Tom Fitzgerald is out as the New Jersey Devils’ GM, the organization revealed today.
“We had a discussion today with Fitzgerald, and both agreed that it is time to move forward,” New Jersey co-owner David Blitzer shared. “He did great during his time as our general manager, as during his tenure, we set an organization record for points in a campaign, and I’m very happy that he also became my friend. I wish him all the best in the future.”
“I want to say to our supporters that we know that we haven’t achieved what we all expected. That’s why we will move in a new direction as this will be a crucial offseason for our team, and we will do everything possible to make our franchise a competitor for the Stanley Cup as soon as possible.”
Despite New Jersey’s beginning today still mathematically eligible for the postseason, they were 7 points out of the final East Conference playoff position with 5 matches until the end of the regular campaign.
