The Australian is struggling with hip injury and is unable to play on Centre Court today

Novak Djokovic has advanced to the Wimbledon semi-finals after Alex de Minaur withdrew from their scheduled quarter-final match due to a hip injury. The Australian, who is seeded ninth, was slated to face Djokovic, the 24-time Grand Slam champion, in the second match on Centre Court on Wednesday.

De Minaur’s withdrawal comes after he experienced a hip injury during his previous match against Arthur Fils, where he heard a “loud crack” in the final points of the game. A subsequent scan confirmed the severity of the injury, leading to a recovery period of three to six weeks and the necessity to pull out to avoid exacerbating the issue.

“I am devastated to pull out due to a hip injury,” De Minaur expressed. “I felt a loud crack during the last three points of my match against [Arthur] Fils. [I] got a scan yesterday and it confirmed that this was the injury and with high risk of making it worse if I was to step on court.”

De Minaur had reached his first Wimbledon quarter-final after defeating Fils in four sets. His withdrawal provides Djokovic a walkover, easing the Serbian’s path as he aims to secure his eighth Wimbledon title, which would tie him with Roger Federer for the most titles at the prestigious tournament.

Djokovic, 37, who defeated Denmark’s Holger Rune to reach his 15th Wimbledon quarter-final, will now face the winner of the match between Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti and American 13th seed Taylor Fritz in the semi-finals.
