The Los Angeles Dodgers have traded both left-hander Victor González and infielder Jorbit Vivas in order to make space in their roster for upcoming star Shohei Ohtani.
Ohtani agreed to a record-breaking $700m deal, but the Los Angeles’ roster had reached its maximum capacity of 40 players and they needed to offload 2 of them.
Trey Sweeney has also been acquired from the New York Yankees. The 23-year-old has hit .252 with 13 homers, 49 RBIs and 20 stolen bases last season at Double-A Somerset.
González was 3-3 with a 4.01 ERA in 33 relief appearances and one start for the Dodgers this year, striking out 33 and walking 10 in 33 2/3 innings, while Vivas hit .280 with 12 homers, 54 RBIs and 21 steals in 109 games at Double-A Tulsa this year.
