Max Jones starred for the Anaheim team as his tiebraking goal proved vital for the win.
“It was a big goal. Definitely one of the bigger ones I have scored,” Jones said afterwards.
“I told myself I was going to shoot on it, but when I crossed the blue line I saw his angles were a little off. I figured I had to go backhand with it, so it worked out.”
Scott Harrington scored two goals for the Ducks for the first time in his nine-years old career and, fittingly, he did it against his former team, where he played for six years.
“He’s a guy that’s not known for scoring or putting up points, but to get a couple is awesome for him, and his teammates on the bench were cheering them on,” Ducks coach Dallas Eakins said of Harrington, who has a total of 10 goals in the NHL, having made 246 appearances.
Troy Terry and Ryan Strome each had a goal and assist, while Trevor Zergas and Max Comtois also added their name to the scoresheet to help the Ducks end their two-games losing streak. Goaltender Lukas Dostals made 38 saves.
Patrik Laine had a goal and an assist for Columbus, which becomes the first team to get eliminated from postseason contention. Nick Blackenburg, Boone Jenner and Cole Sillinger also score, while goaltender Hutchison made 31 saves and stood out with an assist.
The Blue Jackets currently sit at a career-low 49 points, while the Ducks are at 56, their fourth-lowest.
Next up for Columbus is a trip to Vegas on Sunday; the Ducks host Vabcouver on Sunday.
