76ers did not disclose the expected return date of their star

This week, Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid is scheduled to undergo an unspecified procedure to address the injury to his left knee’s lateral meniscus. The team, however, has not disclosed the expected duration of Embiid’s absence. Commencing with a game against Dallas on Monday, the 76ers have a three-game homestand this week.

Having lost to the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday night, Embiid sustained the injury to his left knee, leading to an MRI that confirmed the extent of the damage. With 13 missed games already this season, Embiid’s chances of contending for a second consecutive MVP award have diminished, as the new collective bargaining agreement necessitates players to participate in at least 65 regular-season games for award eligibility.

Despite his absence, Embiid has maintained an MVP-level performance when healthy, currently leading the NBA in scoring with 35.3 points per game, accompanied by averages of 11.3 rebounds and 5.7 assists. Notably, he set a franchise record with 70 points and 18 rebounds in a January 22 victory over San Antonio.

The 76ers, under coach Nick Nurse, acknowledge the challenges of performing without Embiid and emphasize the need to endure such periods. Presently standing at 30-18 and holding the fifth spot in the Eastern Conference, the team faces two more games before the NBA trade deadline on Thursday.

Embiid, expressing a focus on team success over personal accolades, previously stated his primary goal as helping the 76ers secure their first NBA championship since 1983. While leading the NBA with three 50-point games and nine 40-point games this season, Embiid remains pragmatic about individual achievements, emphasizing the importance of contributing to victories rather than chasing accolades.
