Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag has given his squad a warning about any possible complacency that might occur when the Red Devils face Sevilla.
The Spanish club currently finds itself in a terrible possition, having to fight for survival in La Liga.
However, Ten Hag dismissed any possible complacency from his side personally and pleaded his players to take the tie seriously. The Dutchman’s concerns derive from the unbelievable Europa League record the Spanish club holds, having won the event a record 6 times, which is twice as much, compared to the second-placed teams of Inter, Liverpool, Juventus and Atletico Madrid (all with 3).
“Back to Seville and they have a very good record, we have to be aware of it,” Ten Hag said at his press conference on Friday
“It is going to be tough because they are really experienced in the Europa League, they won it so many times. I don’t know the team in detail so I have to focus on that”
Sevilla is the third Spanish team United will face in a row, after beating Barcelona in the play-off round and seeing off Real Betis in the last 16. The Red Devils do not have a bright history of facing Spanish oppositions, with the latest a dramatic penalty-shootout loss to Villareal in the Europa League final back in 2021.
After Arsenal’s elimination, the Red Devils, along with Juventus, are considered favorites for the trophy.
